Poniatowski Leding Parikh partner Meera Parikh worked with the staff of the non-profit All for the Family Legal Clinic, Inc. for a year in a pro-bono capacity. We were pleased to have been able to support the work of this clinic, based in Castro Valley, serving low-income families in Alameda County and the wider Bay Area.
The Non-Profit offers Legal Services
to Low-Income Families in Alameda County
The clinic is a non-profit, public benefit corporation which is dedicated to providing low-cost legal assistance to people who cannot afford to hire a lawyer privately. It charges for its services at a reduced rate, with the fee for legal aid calculated on the client’s ability to pay.
The services the clinic provides are:
- Restraining Order Assistance
- Divorces
- Custody Disputes/Modifications
- Estate Planning
- Probate
- Landlord—Tenant Disputes
- Immigration
Meera Parikh brought her family law background to her work with the clinic. “The court system can be daunting to people not used to working within it,” said Parikh when she began her year of service. “Any assistance I can provide to help people understand how the system works and providing legal representation is a benefit.”
As a side note, Alameda County provides free information about Family Law matters through a Family Law Facilitator’s Office. This office cannot provide legal advice, but it does have information about applicable laws and instructions on the forms and procedures a person needs to use in their case.
